Why do Puppy Prices Increase?

 Why do prices increase?

  • We feed the top of the line dog food, Royal Canin, that the cost of has risen to near 100$/30# bag (depending on the type of food, the puppy food is 96$/30#, canned is $36/12 cans... we go through 7-10 bags a week (depending how many puppies we have), at least 6 cases of canned a week. And puppies EAT ... A LOT! *Because we are a breeder these are our discounted prices, at the store consumers pay 20% more
  • The vaccines we give our adults and puppies have high price tags, and vaccines expire, they have a shelf life and we have to throw out those that aren't used by the expiration date and buy new ones immediately to stock... And these vaccines cost in shipping, they cost in needles and syringes, they are often overnight shipped FedEx (That's not free)
  • Our vet visits our home because we keep a safe and disease free environment where only the vet, State inspector and USDA inspector visit. Our vet is reasonable but he does charge extra to come to our home, he charges for annual exams on all adult dogs, Rabies shots for all dogs over 3 months old, puppies all get a health check at our home by our vet.
  • We use the best most effective cleaners and sanitizers to keep our dogs area and home clean and disease free so that we can provide you with a healthy and happy puppy. 1 gallon of Kennelsol (one of our cleaners) is $50/gallon... When you clean 2-3 times a day that gallon goes quick!
  • We also take time out of each day to spend with the puppies doing neurostimulation, handling, socializing and manners as they get older, our days are long but our efforts show in the care and devotion we have to our dogs and the puppies we provide.
  • The Constant cleaning, dusting, washing surfaces, vacuuming we do here, the yard clean up, this all never stops. Mud!
  • Weekly we Groom and Trim nails, bathe or brush, Goldens get knots under their ears and on their tails after swimming, playing etc... This is time consuming and clipper blades cost as they wear out quickly...20-40$ per blade, one blade shaves an entire poodle but lasts for one trim of all the goldens ear, tail and other knotted hairs...
  • Unlike many other breeders we personally provide care for each of our dogs on a 24/7 basis, many other breeders use guardian homes where other people are caring for any paying for the basic necessities that dogs need, here we take care of our dogs ourselves, why any breeder would trust a stranger to care for their dogs is unexplainable.
  • Toys! Our dogs get chew bones and balls to play with, these are not free... On Chewy we get balls and bones, usually it costs 200$ per order for just toys, at least once a month... We also clean the toys frequently as well.
  • Dog bowls get washed and bleach sanitized after every feeding.
  • Water bowls all get washed and sanitized with bleach several times a week or more frequently, if they're dirty they get washed!
  • We do our own web design and marketing which is very time consuming. Facebook posting, instagram posting, tiktok posting... All for customers to see our dogs. Our website costs money, ads are expensive...
  • We offer behavioral advice and support and take time out of our day to write and phone people with dogs, we love helping but it is also time consuming.
  • There is so much we have not even begun to delve into... so before you ask why prices increase, add this up, and remember we are still lower than most other breeders... Other breeders charge $4000 a doodle puppy and have their dogs in guardian homes...
Please remember to buy from a reputable breeder that truly cares about their dogs and wants to provide the best puppy for all their customers. The more people buy from backyard breeders (people who just don't fix their dogs and allow them to breed) and puppy mills (large scale unsanitary breeding factory) the more you are supporting the wrong people. Support Local, Support Small, Support Reputable Breeders!)
